The LLM Visibility Index: which brands AI actually recommends

When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity to recommend a vendor, who gets named? The LLM Visibility Index tracks AI citation share of voice across verticals — with a fully open methodology.

What is the LLM Visibility Index?

The LLM Visibility Index is a public, monthly ranking of which brands AI answer engines cite and recommend in a given vertical. For each market — banking, legal, healthcare, e-commerce, SaaS and more — it asks the major models the questions real buyers ask, then measures who gets named, how prominently, and how consistently.

It is, in effect, the AI-search equivalent of a search-ranking report: not “where do you rank in Google”, but “when an assistant builds a shortlist, are you on it?”

Why AI visibility is now a leaderboard worth watching

A growing share of buying research starts with a question to an assistant rather than a search box. The assistant reads the web, synthesises an answer, and names a handful of vendors. That shortlist is the new top of funnel — and unlike a page of ten blue links, it usually contains three names, not ten.

That makes AI citation share of voice a measurable, competitive metric. If a competitor is named in nine of ten relevant answers and you’re named in one, you have a visibility gap you can’t see in Google Analytics — and the Index is built to surface exactly that. (For how to measure it on your own site, see ChatGPT analytics and LLM SEO tools.)

The methodology (open and reproducible)

The whole point of an index is that the method is transparent. Here is exactly how the Visibility Score is produced.

1. Models tested

Each prompt is run across the major answer engines: ChatGPT (GPT), Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Each model is weighted by approximate share of consumer AI-search usage so the score reflects real-world exposure.

2. Prompts

For each vertical we maintain a fixed panel of buyer-intent prompts — the recommendation-seeking questions a real prospect asks (“best [category] for a mid-market company”, “[category] alternatives to [leader]”, and so on). The panel is published per vertical and held stable month to month so changes reflect the market, not the questions.

3. What counts as a citation

A brand scores when it is named in the answer and, separately and more heavily, when it is cited as a linked source. Position matters: being the first recommendation outweighs being the fifth.

4. The Visibility Score

The Visibility Score (0–100) is a position-weighted share of voice: across all prompts and models in a vertical, the proportion of recommendation “slots” a brand wins, weighted by position and model usage. A score of 100 would mean a brand is named first in every relevant answer across every model.

5. Cadence

The Index is re-run monthly. Month-over-month movement is reported so brands can see whether their AI visibility is rising or eroding.

Frequently asked questions

What is the LLM Visibility Index?

The LLM Visibility Index is a public, monthly ranking of which brands AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews — cite and recommend in a given vertical. It reports a Visibility Score (0–100), a position-weighted share of voice across a fixed panel of buyer-intent prompts, using a fully open methodology.

How is the Visibility Score calculated?

The Visibility Score is a position-weighted share of voice. For each vertical, a fixed set of buyer-intent prompts is run across the major models; a brand scores when it is named in the answer (and more heavily when cited as a linked source), weighted by its position and by each model’s share of usage. The score is normalised to 0–100 and re-run monthly.

Which AI models does the Index track?

It tracks the major consumer answer engines: ChatGPT (GPT), Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Each is weighted by approximate share of AI-search usage so the overall score reflects real-world exposure rather than treating a niche model the same as a dominant one.

How can I get my brand into the Index?

Request it — you can ask for a specific vertical to be prioritised or your brand to be included in its prompt panel. Tracking runs on Bloxx’s AI-visibility engine, which also reports your own Visibility Score and the pages driving (or missing) your citations. Run the free audit and book a demo to get started.

Is the data real or illustrative?

The methodology is real and reproducible; the leaderboard currently shown on this page is an illustrative preview of the format using placeholder entries, not measured rankings. The first live verticals publish in 2026. We label illustrative data clearly rather than present sample numbers as fact.
